In a decisive move, amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Punjab, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan have shut down schools in several districts near their border areas. This preventive measure follows 'Operation Sindoor,' leading to heightened security concerns.
In Punjab, schools in Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, ritsar, Gurdaspur, and Tarn Taran have been closed.
Similarly, Rajasthan has also declared holidays in schools across the border districts of Barmer, Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar, and Jaisalmer, with officials citing national security and the safety of school children as the primary reasons.
Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir, Chandigarh and Rajasthan have also announced to close all schools and colleges for next 3 days following escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

This closure impacts both government and private institutions, reflecting a comprehensive approach to ensure the safety of students
In Rajasthan, District Collector Tina Dabi, exercising powers under the Disaster Act 2005, declared a holiday for schools in Barmer district. This suspension of educational activities, affecting government, private schools, and other educational institutions, is in effect from May 8, 2025, until further orders.
As parents were seen escorting their children back home following the school closures, the community's concern for safety is palpable. This collective response, involving local administrations, police forces, and citizens, reflects a unified effort to navigate through the challenges posed by the current geopolitical situation.
Leaves of police officers have also been cancelled in most of Indian States.
