Akhilesh Yadav Criticises Yogi Adityanath Government for Blocking JPNIC Entrance with Tin Sheets
Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav criticised the Yogi Adityanath administration on Thursday night. He accused them of blocking the main entrance of the Jayaprakash Narayan International Centre (JPNIC) with tin sheets. This incident coincided with the birth anniversary of socialist leader Jayaprakash Narayan on October 11. Yadav expressed his concerns outside the centre, questioning the government's motives behind this action.

Last year, Yadav had to climb over the gate of JPNIC in Gomti Nagar to garland a statue of Jai Prakash Narayan located in the premises. This JPNIC, the museum of socialists, statue of Jayaprakash Narayan and there are things inside on how we can understand socialism, Akhilesh Yadav told reporters outside the Centre.
Yadav's Concerns and Accusations
Yadav speculated about the government's intentions, suggesting they might be planning to sell or transfer the property. "What is the government hiding by erecting these tin sheds? Is it possible that they are getting ready to sell it, or want to give it to someone?" he questioned. When asked if he would visit the centre on Friday to pay his respects, Yadav replied, "We will decide the programme tomorrow. For how long they will keep it barred behind tin sheds."
In a post on X, Yadav criticised the BJP's governance, calling it an ostentatious Amritkal of freedom. He described the closure as a reflection of the party's closed mindset. "BJP holds ill-will and animosity towards every freedom fighter like Jayaprakash Narayan ji, who participated in the freedom struggle of the country," he stated. He further accused BJP members of feeling guilty for not participating in India's freedom struggle, which prevents them from honouring revolutionaries on their birth anniversaries.
Samajwadi Party's Reaction
Earlier in the day, Samajwadi Party shared a video on social media showing workers putting up tin sheets at JPNIC's main gate. The party condemned this action, labelling it as an example of BJP's dirty politics. "The useless BJP government is constantly attacking democracy!" read a post on X by the party. They also criticised the government for disrespecting great leaders by halting development projects like JPNIC in Lucknow.
The Samajwadi Party accused BJP of being anti-people and dictatorial. "This anti-people government has insulted great men by ruining development work like JPNIC built in Lucknow. Socialists will not bow down to these dictators!" they declared.
Traffic Restrictions and Historical Context
Lucknow Police announced traffic restrictions around JPNIC for Friday due to these developments. The JPNIC was inaugurated by Akhilesh Yadav in 2016 during his tenure as Uttar Pradesh's chief minister. However, construction work halted when BJP assumed power in 2017. The building includes several structures, such as the Jayaprakash Narayan Interpretation Centre and a museum.
The ongoing situation at JPNIC highlights tensions between political parties over historical figures and development projects. As events unfold, both parties continue to express their perspectives on social media and through public statements.
