Mahakumbh 2025: Akhara Parishad Confirms Snan Will Proceed After Crowd Clears
In response to the chaos caused by the overwhelming crowds during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, Ravindra Puri, President of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, clarified that the Akharas had temporarily put their holy dip or 'snan' on hold. The excessive crowding at the designated ghats earlier in the day had led to safety concerns. However, Puri confirmed that the situation has now improved.

Akhara Parishad Confirms 'Snan Will Proceed'
With the ghats meant for the Akharas' snan now being vacated, Puri stated that all Akharas would proceed with their snan later in the day. "We are in regular communication with the Mela administration, and the ghats are now cleared. Our processions will go ahead as per our traditions, but at a smaller scale due to the current circumstances," he explained.
Addressing Misinformation and Panic
Puri also addressed the misinformation that had caused panic among devotees earlier in the morning. "In the morning, rumors were spread that created fear in the minds of people. However, after speaking with everyone, we found the reality was different," he stated. He urged devotees not to rush to the Sangam, suggesting that they take a dip at any accessible ghat where the holy Ganga flows.
Reassuring Devotees: Snan Will Happen at a Comfortable Pace
Puri assured that there is no rush for the snan and that the Akharas are not in a hurry. "We have ample time to complete the snan. Even if it's later in the evening or night, we will carry out the rituals in due course," he said. He emphasized that the focus should be on safety and maintaining order during the massive gathering.
The Significance of the Maha Kumbh and Future Dates
As the Maha Kumbh Mela continues to unfold, Puri's reassurances are aimed at calming the anxieties of millions of devotees. The next major event in the Mela is expected on Vasant Panchami, February 3, 2025. Authorities, alongside the Akharas, are working to manage the large crowds expected to gather on these key dates.
The clarification and appeal by Ravindra Puri came at a crucial time, signaling a return to normalcy after the earlier disruptions. The Akharas' participation in the snan ritual is a vital part of the Mela, and Puri's statements aim to ensure it proceeds smoothly without further incidents.
