Ajit Pawar Campaigns for Wife Sunetra in Baramati Lok Sabha Election

In a recent development in Maharashtra politics, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has made a notable appeal to the voters of Baramati, urging them to support his wife, Sunetra Pawar, in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. This move sets the stage for an intriguing contest within the Pawar family, as Sunetra Pawar is up against Supriya Sule, her sister-in-law and the current Lok Sabha MP from Baramati. Supriya Sule represents the faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by her father, Sharad Pawar.

Ajit Pawar Supports Wife in Election

Baramati, a constituency with deep ties to the Pawar family and where Ajit Pawar serves as an MLA, is witnessing a unique electoral battle. Ajit Pawar highlighted the long-standing support of Baramati's voters for his family and suggested that it was time for them to consider a new option within the same lineage. "You have been with the Pawars for so long...just go and vote for another Pawar," he stated, referring to his wife Sunetra.

Addressing party workers in Baramati, Ajit Pawar reminisced about the electoral history of his family in the constituency. He reminded voters of their past choices—first electing him, then his uncle Sharad Pawar, followed by Supriya Sule for three terms. He suggested that electing Sunetra Pawar would maintain this tradition while bringing a new perspective to the representation of Baramati in the Lok Sabha.

The Deputy CM also took this opportunity to comment on the dynamics within his family, especially concerning those who are currently aligned against him and with Sharad Pawar. He humorously noted that his cousins had not actively campaigned for him in past elections but seemed more engaged now. Ajit Pawar warned his detractors within the family not to provoke him into speaking out openly about internal matters, hinting at potential repercussions.

The electoral contest in Baramati is part of a broader electoral process in Maharashtra, where 48 Lok Sabha seats are up for grabs. The elections are scheduled to occur in five phases from April 19 to May 20, with Baramati going to polls on May 7. This internal contest within the Pawar family adds an intriguing layer to Maharashtra's political landscape, as voters in Baramati weigh their loyalty and consider their options within a family that has dominated their political scene for decades.
