Initially, Jawaria Khanam's quest for an Indian visa faced hurdles. However, with the unwavering support of a Punjab-based social activist, she secured a 45-day visa, paving the way for their union. The couple intends to extend their visa after their wedding ceremony.

Punjab-based journalist Gagandeep Singh revealed that the couple has been together for five years and plans to wed in early 2024.

Cross-border marriages between India and Pakistan, though not uncommon, often attract public scrutiny.

This isn't the first high-profile cross-border union. Earlier, Seema Haider, a Pakistani woman had crossed the Indian border with her four children to marry Sachin Meena, an Indian man from Noida. Their relationship garnered significant media attention, both positive and negative.

Similarly, Anju, now Fatima, traveled to Pakistan to marry her Facebook friend Nasrullah. Upon returning to India via the Wagah Border, she was subjected to interrogation before being escorted to the Amritsar airport.
