After clash with Rakshit Shetty over 'Muslim king gave land to Udupi mutt' remark, Mithun gets death threat
Congress leader and KPCC general secretary Mithun Rai reportedly received death threats on a social media site. It comes days after his Twitter clash with Kannada actor Rakshit Shetty over Udupi mutt row.
According to the complaint, he received a life-threatening message from a social media user called 'Honey Hindustani Mumbai' in a Whatsapp group titled 'Jai Sriram'.

"A person in the name of Honey Hindustani Mumbai in the Jai Shree Ram whatsapp group has threatened Mithun Rai that he will be shot," Daijiworld quoted the police complaint.
The block Congress members have urged the police department to take necessary action to catch the culprit behind the post. The report claims that Mulki block Congress president Mohan Kotian has requested the local administration to increase security for Mithun Rai in view of the death threat message.
Rai was recently in the news after claiming that the Muslim king had given land to Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt. He made these remarks at 'Nammora Masjid noda banni' organised at Noorani Masjid in Puttige in Moodbidri taluk. His comments triggered massive outrage with BJP leaders coming down heavily on him.
Even Kannada actor Rakshit Shetty disagreed with Mithun Rai's comments. Without taking his name, the actor had tweeted, "The temple town of Udupi has a written history of more than thousand years... Why talk nonsense on a public platform when you have no idea???"
However, Mithun Rai's followers started attacking him as they claimed that Pejawar Seer had made those claims in 2017. Rakshit Shetty then shot back with a tweet, "Temple town of Udupi has Chandramaulishwara which is the oldest of all temples and then the Ananteshwara which is the second oldest and then comes the Krishna temple. All three temples are in car street... I am thorough with what I speak Sir 🙏"
The 'Charlie 333' actor then stated that the Congress leader is his friend and has nothing against him. "Mithun Rai is a friend. Nothing against him. But a fact is a fact. Sri Pejawar swami must be talking about different land," he wrote.
Later, Mithun Rai appealed to his followers not to attack Rakshit Shetty while also stating that he was just quoting the words of late Pejawar seer.
"Whatever I have spoken, it was just quoted from the speech of the Late Pejawara Seer and not my own, since I am not a historian," he said. He then said that BJP was trying to distract people's attention from the real issues.
"Rakshit Shetty might be right in his own terms, but I am right from my point of view too. Communal harmony is what I preach like what our respectable Seer taught us, since the Udupi and Dakshina Kannada is in need of it. I request all my followers to put an end to this confusion and the created controversy and not target our young budding actor Rakshit Shetty. He is a Tuluva. He is our pride," the Congress leader said in his message to his social media followers.
