'4–5 Explosions…': Eyewitness Describes Horrific Ajit Pawar Plane Crash In Baramati, Maharashtra | Watch

A chartered aircraft carrying NCP leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was involved in a serious accident on Wednesday morning while attempting to land at Baramati airport in Maharashtra.

According to initial reports, the aircraft was trying to make an emergency landing when it crashed near the airport premises.

The privately operated plane had four other people on board, including two pilots and two security personnel. Visuals from the site showed wreckage spread across the area, with flames and thick smoke rising from the aircraft.

Ajit Pawar was travelling from Mumbai to Baramati, where he was scheduled to address four public meetings ahead of the upcoming Zilla Parishad elections. The aircraft, identified in reports as a Learjet 45 chartered from Mumbai, reportedly faced trouble while landing.

Footage from the crash site showed the aircraft badly damaged, with debris scattered in all directions. Early visuals indicated a major fire, prompting emergency services to rush to the spot. Fire tenders, police teams, and medical personnel were immediately deployed to control the situation and assist at the site.

However, there has been no official statement from Ajit Pawar's office or government authorities confirming the cause of the crash or the condition of those on board. Further details are awaited.

Eyewitness Recounts Terrifying Moments

An eyewitness present near the crash site described the incident as extremely distressing.
"I saw it with my own eyes. When the aircraft was coming down, it looked like it would crash, and then it did. There was a huge explosion, followed by fire. After that, there were four to five more explosions," the eyewitness said.

The eyewitness added that locals rushed towards the aircraft to help but were unable to reach those inside due to the intense flames. "Many people tried to pull passengers out, but the fire was too strong. It was very painful to watch. I cannot describe what I felt," the person said.

Another Eyewitness Recounts Horror:

A local resident living near the airstrip described the terrifying scene moments after the aircraft went down.
"We live close to the airstrip behind our house. We saw the plane approach but it did not land the first time and went ahead. After some time, it turned back and began landing again. Just before reaching the runway, it crash-landed," the resident said.

The eyewitness added that they immediately alerted people living nearby, following which the police and emergency teams rushed to the spot. "They tried to control the fire, and after around 15 minutes, the flames were put out. When we went closer, we saw a body lying there. It was badly burned and swollen, and we could not recognise it at first," the resident said.

According to the eyewitness, the identity was later confirmed using an item found on the body. "Later, it was identified as Dada (Ajit Pawar). The police asked us for water, which we gave. They also needed something to cover the body, so we brought a new blanket from our house," the resident added.

Journey Before the Incident

Ajit Pawar had attended a Cabinet meeting in Mumbai on Tuesday and was travelling to Baramati for a series of political engagements linked to civic elections in the Pune region. Authorities have said that more information will be shared once official verification is completed.
