Holiday Date Confusion

The confusion about whether the holiday falls on November 24 or 25 stems from recent changes in holiday dates in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. According to PTI reports, the Uttar Pradesh government altered the gazetted holiday for Guru Tegh Bahadur's martyrdom day in 2025. Initially set for November 24, it has now been changed to November 25.

Manish Chauhan, Principal Secretary of Human Resources (General Administration), issued an order stating that this amendment was approved at the government level. Consequently, all government offices and schools in Uttar Pradesh will observe the holiday on November 25.

Punjab's Potential Date Change

Currently, Punjab observes Guru Tegh Bahadur's martyrdom day on November 24. However, Kamaljit Singh Panchi, President of the National Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Force in Chandigarh, has appealed to Punjab's Governor and Chandigarh's Administrator to declare a public holiday on November 25 for the 350th martyrdom anniversary.

Panchi argues that November 25 holds special historical and spiritual significance as it marks the day Guru Tegh Bahadur sacrificed his life for religious freedom and human rights. This appeal has sparked discussions about changing the holiday date in Punjab.
