Telugu News Anchor Swetcha Votarkar Found Dead At Home In Hyderabad
Popular Telugu news anchor Swetcha Votarkar was found dead at her residence in Chikkadpally, Hyderabad, on Friday, June 27, 2025. She was 35. Police suspect suicide, though they are treating the case as a suspicious death pending the outcome of the post-mortem examination.
Swetcha, a familiar and respected name in Telugu journalism, had built an 18-year-long career across major news channels, including TV9. At the time of her death, she was working as a special correspondent and news presenter with T News, a prominent Telugu news channel.

According to preliminary reports, Swetcha was living in a penthouse apartment along with her mother, Sreedevi, and her school-going daughter. The incident came to light when her daughter returned from school and found the bedroom door locked from the inside. After repeated calls went unanswered, neighbors were alerted. The door was forced open, and Swetcha was found hanging and unconscious. Emergency services were called, but she was declared dead on the spot.
Her body has been shifted to Gandhi Hospital for a post-mortem, which is expected to provide further clarity on the circumstances surrounding her death.
Friends and colleagues described Swetcha as a fearless and principled journalist, deeply influenced by her late father, a committed communist. Her name, "Swetcha," meaning "freedom" in Telugu, was seen as a reflection of her strong and independent personality. She was reportedly divorced and had been living with her partner at the time of the incident.
The news has shocked the Telugu media fraternity, with many expressing grief and disbelief over her sudden death. Colleagues remembered her as someone who was not only professionally strong but also emotionally supportive, often helping others through difficult times.
Though initial indications point to suicide, police have stated they are exploring all angles and will wait for the autopsy results before drawing any conclusions. Investigators are also looking into potential personal and family-related issues that may have contributed to the tragic event.
Swetcha's untimely demise has raised questions and stirred conversations about mental health and the pressures faced by those in the media industry.
