Telangana Schools Reopen Today After 49-Day Break, Here's What’s New This Year

Ending a 49-day summer vacation, schools across Telangana reopened today, June 12, 2025, for Classes 1 to 10, marking the start of the 2025-26 academic year. However, many institutions have opted for half-day sessions over the next three days due to prevailing heat conditions. Full-day classes are set to resume on Monday, June 16.

In a first, the state government has introduced "Early Childhood Care and Education" and launched pre-primary sections in select schools to strengthen foundational learning.

While most schools in the state have reopened, a few in Hyderabad have decided to remain shut until June 16, citing administrative reasons. Meanwhile, the Department of School Education has mandated that all schools complete the first Formative Assessment (FA-1) by July 31.

According to the official academic calendar, schools will have 230 working days this academic year. Students are expected to maintain a minimum of 90% attendance. Short-term breaks include:

Dasara Holidays: September 21 to October 3, 2025

Christmas Break (for missionary schools): December 23 to 27, 2025

Sankranthi Holidays (for other schools): January 11 to 15, 2026

The last working day of the academic year will be April 23, 2026, with the next Telangana school holidays-the summer break-starting from April 24 to June 11, 2026.
