Severe Cold Wave Sweeps Hyderabad And Nizamabad, Temperatures Plunge To 6.3°C
Hyderabad and Nizamabad experienced a dramatic dip in temperatures, with Jainad and Bheempur witnessing a startling low of 6.3° Celsius this Sunday, marking some of the coldest weather of the season. In Sangareddy district, the outskirts of BHEL recorded temperatures of 9.6°C, while the University of Hyderabad and Serilingampally in Rangareddy district weren't much warmer at 9.7°C.
This sudden plunge into colder weather prompted residents to turn off their air conditioners or switch them to heating mode, bring out room warmers, and slow down their ceiling fans. Those without homes sought warmth around communal bonfires, highlighting the stark impact of the cold on daily lives.
In response to the severe cold, people have been flocking to hospitals with complaints of fever, colds, coughs, and even skin diseases, which have seen a rise due to the harsh weather conditions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has taken note of the situation, issuing a cold wave warning for Adilabad and Komaram Bheem Asifabad districts, expecting the chilly conditions to persist. To combat the cold, residents are being advised to dress warmly, limit time spent in cold environments, and stay hydrated. Additionally, caution is urged during early morning drives when fog can significantly reduce visibility.
Across the state, the cold has been unforgiving, with 13 centers registering single-digit temperatures from Saturday night into Sunday morning, putting Adilabad district at the forefront of this winter's cold wave. Notably, Kohir mandal headquarters in Medak district saw temperatures of 6.8°C, Kotagiri mandal headquarters in Nizamabad district at 7.6°C, Shivampet mandal in Medak at 8.0°C, and Akbar-Bhoompally village in Pothareddypet mandal of Siddipet district recorded 8.6°C. This widespread drop in temperatures underscores the intensity of this year's winter season.
Other areas in Adilabad like Pochara, Bhoraj, and Tandra also experienced chilling temperatures ranging from 6.4° to 6.6°C, further showcasing the widespread reach of the cold wave. The sharp decline in temperature has had a tangible effect on daily routines, with residents seeking ways to adapt to the colder weather.
As the cold season intensifies, the community's focus shifts towards maintaining warmth and health. The cold wave's impact stretches across the state, altering the way of life for many, from adjusting household appliances to seeking medical care for cold-induced ailments. The IMD's warnings and advice serve as a guide for residents to navigate this period safely, highlighting the importance of preparedness during such extreme weather conditions.
