Revanth Reddy To Be Chief Minister Of Telangana, Oath-Taking Likely Tomorrow Or December 7th

Reddy, the state Congress chief, is credited with reviving the party's fortunes in Telangana and leading it to a resounding victory in the recent elections. He is known for his strong organizational skills and his ability to connect with the masses.

Oath-Taking Ceremony Likely Tomorrow or 7th December

Sources close to the Congress leadership have indicated that Reddy's oath-taking ceremony is likely to take place either tomorrow or on December 7th. The exact date and time will be finalized soon.

The Congress emerged victorious in the recent Telangana assembly elections, defeating the incumbent BRS party. This marks a significant comeback for the Congress in the southern state, which it had ruled for a decade before bifurcation.

Meet Revanth Reddy: A Political Journey from ABVP Activist to Telangana Chief Minister

Revanth Reddy's roots trace back to a farming family in Kondareddipalle village, located near Kalwakurthy in the former Andhra Pradesh, now nestled in southern Telangana. His journey, marked by political astuteness, began on November 8, 1968, culminating in a BA degree from Hyderabad's AV College in 1992, as per his election affidavit.

The trail of Revanth's political evolution commenced with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) during his formative student years. Subsequently, he ventured into the budding Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now BRS) in 2001-02, transitioning later to carve an independent path. His emergence as an Independent in the 2006 Zilla Parishad Territorial Council election heralded the onset of his political ascent.

His initial political victories stood out prominently against the Congress. Notably, in 2007, contesting independently, he triumphed over the Congress candidate in the Mahbubnagar area's local bodies MLC polls.

Revanth's trajectory underwent a pivotal shift when his potential was recognized by Chandrababu Naidu. His affiliation with the TDP in 2008 bore fruit when he secured his inaugural MLA seat from Kodangal in 2009, besting the Congress candidate by a substantial margin. He solidified his dominance in 2014, retaining the seat. Naidu later appointed him as the Telangana TDP working president and assembly floor leader.

Known for his incisive oratory skills, Revanth consistently critiqued the KCR regime on multiple fronts, often employing terms like 'taagubothu' (drunkard) and 'sannasi' (reflecting foolishness) to reference KCR.

As the TDP's influence waned in Telangana due to Naidu's shift to Amaravati in October 2017, Revanth redirected his allegiance to the Congress party. His departure irked KCR to such an extent that TRS leaders were instructed to thwart Revanth's return to the assembly at any cost. Despite losing his seat in December 2018, he later reclaimed it.

However, Revanth pivoted to the national stage, securing a seat as the Congress MP in the 2019 general elections from Malkajgiri, a significant Lok Sabha constituency.

In contrast to other Telangana TDP MLAs who aligned with the TRS, Revanth maintained cordial relations with Naidu. Although some within his party labeled him as "an outsider, Naidu's man in Telangana politics," the Congress leadership appointed him as the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief in June 2021, following the party's consecutive bypoll defeats in the region.
