Jr NTR Announces To Donate Rs 1 Crore For Andhra Pradesh And Telangana Flood Victims

Popular actor Jr NTR has announced to donate ₹50 lakh each to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The torrential rains have claimed over 30 lives, with 17 fatalities in Andhra Pradesh and 16 in Telangana, according to news agency ANI.

Sharing his deep sorrow on social media platform X, Jr NTR said, "I am deeply saddened by the recent floods in two Telugu states. I pray to God that Telugu people recover from this calamity soon."

The Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada has recorded its highest flood water level with a discharge of 11.43 lakh cusecs against its maximum capacity of 11.9 lakh cusecs. Surrounding areas have been submerged due to this overflow. Additionally, rising water levels in the Munneru river have led to severe flooding in Khammam district.

The chief ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have urged the Centre to declare the recent floods in their states as a natural calamity.

During a press conference, Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu remarked, "In my career, this is the biggest disaster...We had some events like Hudhud hurricane and Titli cyclone but compared to these, here the human suffering and property loss is the biggest." The intense rainfall has caused significant damage to homes, crops, and roadways over the past three days.

Telangana CM A Revanth Reddy highlighted that preliminary estimates indicate financial losses amounting to ₹5,000 crore due to the flooding.

Government Response

To manage relief operations effectively, Andhra Pradesh has deployed 32 senior IAS officers and 179 officials. Despite these efforts, CM Naidu acknowledged that providing food to stranded individuals remains challenging in certain regions. Both states have appealed for assistance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the heavy rains to a depression over Vidarbha region, warning of potential flash floods. However, they predict that rainfall will decrease today and become more moderate in both states.

District collector Muzammil Khan described the situation in Khammam as "unprecedented," noting that they are experiencing severe floods unlike anything seen in the past 30 years due to 200mm of rain. Over 110 relief camps have been set up in Telangana, sheltering more than 4,000 people safely.

The road links between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have suffered major damage due to continuous downpour. The chief ministers have requested immediate intervention from Prime Minister Modi to address this natural disaster.

The rising floodwaters have caused widespread destruction across both states. As rescue operations continue, authorities are working tirelessly to provide relief and support to affected communities.
