Hyderabad Metro Faces Technical Issues, Services Affected

Passengers on the Hyderabad Metro Rail experienced a brief disruption on January 29 due to a technical issue. The glitch occurred in the signalling system but was quickly addressed, allowing services to resume as normal. The Hyderabad Metro Rail expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to passengers.

The Hyderabad Metro Rail's official X account stated, "Dear Passengers, earlier today, Hyderabad Metro Rail services encountered a temporary disruption caused by a signalling system technical glitch. We worked promptly to resolve the issue, and normal services have been restored. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused our passengers."

Hyderabad Metro Network

The metro network in Hyderabad consists of three main lines: the Blue line from Nagole to Raidurg, the Red line connecting Miyapur to LB Nagar, and the Green line running between JBS parade ground and MG bus station. These lines collectively span approximately 69.2 kilometres.

Launched in 2017, the Hyderabad Metro was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 28 of that year. It integrates with existing railway and bus stations in the city, facilitating smoother commutes for residents and visitors alike.

Environmental Benefits

The Hyderabad Metro is part of the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) aimed at reducing traffic congestion and pollution while enhancing the city's livability index. A notable feature is its rainwater harvesting system, which recycles about one hundred thousand litres daily to recharge groundwater.

The metro project is expected to significantly reduce environmental pollutants. It aims to cut down ten thousand tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Additionally, it will decrease two hundred tons of volatile organic compounds and twelve tons of particulate matter from the atmosphere.
