Amid China's New HMPV Virus Scare, Telangana Releases Health Advisory - Check Dos, Don'ts
Amid the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) outbreak in China, the Telangana government on Saturday released a health advisory, urging the public there is no need for alarm.
The Telangana Director of Public Health (DPH), Dr B Ravinder Naik declared that that no cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) have been reported in the state as China battles a new disease. He assured the public that there is no need for alarm.

"So far, no case of HMPV has been reported in Telangana. The Health Department has analyzed the data of prevailing respiratory infections in Telangana state. There is no substantial increase of such infections in December 2024 compared to last year December, 2023," the DPH said.
In an advisory, the DPH highlighted that data on respiratory infections in Telangana revealed no significant increase in cases this December compared to December 2023. The health department is actively monitoring the situation in coordination with the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW).
"HMPV is like any other respiratory virus which causes common cold and flu-like symptoms during winter season, especially among younger and older age groups. However, as a part of precautionary measure, we have urged people to follow certain Dos and Don't's as a safe guard against respiratory infections," he added.
Facing a health emergency that echoes the distressing days of the Covid-19 pandemic, China is grappling with a new challenge as it battles the spread of multiple viruses, including the human metapneumovirus (HMPV). This crisis has led to an alarming strain on the healthcare infrastructure, with hospitals and crematoriums struggling to cope with the influx of cases. The impact is particularly acute in pediatric care facilities, where a noticeable increase in infections has been observed among those under 14 years old, especially in the country's northern regions.
