Has ICC Withdrawn World Cup Title From Australia To Make It Best Of 3 Finals? Here's The Truth

Despite playing superb cricket for nearly six weeks, India lost to Australia in the World Cup final played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in India on Sunday.

The loss has triggered a debate on social media websites about whether there should be a 'best of 3' for the World Cup finals.

Has ICC Withdrawn World Cup Title From Australia To Make It Best Of 3 Finals? Heres The Truth

"Final match should not be a single game. Most major world series games have more than one final matches or sets i.e. Basketball, Baseball, Tennis

India won 10 matches in a row. A best of 3 or best of 5 in final would have sealed World Cup victory guaranteed!" one user said on X, formerly Twitter.

Another user stated, "Rohit Sharma was not out if you watch the replay. Australian catcher did not show sports man spirit. World cup format final should be based on the best of 3."

The third user claimed, "A World Cup Final 🏆 should be a best of 3 , if a team can only reach the final after performing better then others in 10 games then how can a world-cup winner be decided in a 1 single match ? "

According to the fans, India would have outperformed Australia if there were three finals. Their anguish has a reason since India had won 10 matches in a row.

There was also a theory doing rounds on social media platforms that the International Cricket Council has decided to have 'best of 3' matches for the World Cup finals from 2027 following a request from the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

According to a report, the new rule is coming into effect from the recently-concluded World Cup itself and the ICC has announced two more final matches which will be played in the Narendra Modi Stadium itself.

However, this is a baseless report as the ICC has not made any such announcements. Moreover, some of the members from the Australia team have left for their country
