Not 2024 Polls, Thalapathy Vijay Sets His Eyes On 2026 TN Assembly Elections
Vijay's party, the name of which is yet to be registered, will contest in 2026 Tamil Nadu elections. He has been declared the Party President and the process of registering the name is underway.
Tamil actor Vijay will soon foray into politics by floating his own party, but the party will not contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, NDTV reported citing a source.

One source told the channel: "He will enter politics ahead of the 2026 state polls in Tamil Nadu." On the possible name, he added, "It will definitely have Kazhagam in it, keeping in line with traditions in Tamil Nadu."
The actor has been elected as the President of his party and the process of registering the party name with the Election Commission is underway, a key member said. The party has also appointed its General Secretary and Treasurer.
The key decisions were taken in the party's general council meeting which was attended by around 200 members. A Central Executive Committee has also been formed, the report said.
Vijay has been given the authority to select the party name. On asking about the name of the party, another source said, "It will definitely have Kazhagam in it, keeping in line with traditions in Tamil Nadu."
The actor has a fan club called Vijay Makkal Iyakkham. It already has thousands of fans spread across the state. The organisation engages in welfare activities. Recently, the fans club honoured the toppers from the public exams from Tamil Nadu.
Vijay has always been ambitious about politics. Several times, he has given hints about foraying into politics at some stage of his career. In 2020, a drama unfolded when his father SA Chandrasekhar announced that he was getting active in politics through the political party.
A Chandrasekhar announced that he was the party's General Secretary, his wife as its treasure and relative Padmanabhan as the party's President. However, Vijay was not happy with his father over using his name for political gains. So, he filed a lawsuit against eleven people, including his parents, SA Chandrasekhar and Shoba Chandrasekhar, in a city court in Chennai.
"I don't have any connection directly or indirectly with the political statements that my father has issued. I'm not bound to follow my father's political aspirations. I request my fans not to join the party that my father has started. If anyone tries to misuse my name, photo, or my fan clubs for their political aspirations, I will take necessary actions against them", he had said in a statement.
As the situation started turning bad to worse, SA Chandrasekhar dissolved the party. "I have decided I want to have no more part in politics or the iyakkam or in any political activity in these late years of my life. That's all, it's very simple," he was quoted as saying after dissolving Vijay Makkal Iyakkam.
Vijay, who has acted in 68 movies, is currently working on Venkat Prabhu's 'The Greatest of All Time'.
