Mouni Roy Recalls Harassment At Haryana Event: “Uncles Showed Lewd Hand Gestures Towards Me”

Mouni Roy has spoken out about a disturbing incident she says unfolded during a public event in Karnal, Haryana, where her stage appearance allegedly turned into an experience marked by harassment and discomfort.

The actor shared her account through Instagram Stories, saying the behaviour of a section of the audience left her shaken, angry and deeply humiliated.

What was meant to be a celebratory evening, Mouni said, quickly crossed personal and professional boundaries, forcing her to address an issue she usually prefers to keep private.

"Disgusted With The Behaviour Of The Guests"

Recounting the beginning of the incident, Mouni Roy wrote that she was shocked by the conduct of certain attendees. "Had an event in Karnal last and I'm disgusted with the behaviour of the guests specially two uncles who are well aged to be grandparents," she said.

According to her, the situation became uncomfortable even before she reached the stage. "As the event started and I walked towards the stage, uncles and family members (all men) put their hands on my waist to click pictures," Mouni wrote. She added that she immediately objected to the physical contact, stating, "Didn't like it when I said 'sir please remove your hand'."

Lewd Gestures And Remarks During Performance

The actor said the harassment intensified once she was on stage. "On stage is even a better story. Two uncles stood right front making lewd remarks showing me lewd hand gestures, name calling," Mouni Roy shared.

She explained that she initially tried to manage the situation politely. "I realised that and first politely gestured to them don't do it to which they started throwing roses at me," she wrote, indicating that her attempt to stop the behaviour did not help.

Tried To Exit Stage, But No Intervention

Mouni Roy revealed that the incident reached a point where she briefly attempted to leave mid-performance. "Is when mid performance I walked towards the stage exit but immediately came back to finish my performance," she said.

Despite the visible disruption, she expressed disappointment over the lack of support on the ground. "No family or organisers moved them from up front," she noted, adding that the absence of immediate intervention made the situation worse.

She also highlighted safety concerns related to filming. "Have to also mention that the stage was on a height and these uncles were making videos low angel. When someone asked them to stop they abused them," Mouni wrote.

"Humiliated, Traumatised And Want Action"

Sharing the emotional toll of the incident, the actor said the experience left a lasting impact. "I am humiliated, traumatised and want the authorities to take action for these intolerable behaviour," she wrote.

Mouni Roy ended her statement with a strong message directed at those responsible. "We are artists trying to earn an honest living through our craft. Wonder what these men would do if their friends behaved the same with their daughters sisters or any family members shame on you!" she said.

Explaining why she chose to speak publicly, Mouni added that while she usually avoids sharing negative experiences, this incident crossed a line. "I love my country our people our traditions but this? The guts. The entitlement of being men," she concluded.
