Malayalam Actress Rima Kallingal Takes Legal Action Against Suchitra’s Drug Rave Claims

Malayalam actress Rima Kallingal has filed a defamation suit against Tamil singer Suchitra for accusing her and her husband, filmmaker Aashiq Abu, of hosting drug-fueled rave parties.

In a social media post on Tuesday, Kallingal, a founding member of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), denied the allegations, stating, "Although these wild theories did not make it into the mainstream news, her baseless statement gained traction. Let me make it clear that such an event never occurred. I have decided to take action."

Kallingal has lodged a complaint with the Special Investigation Team and issued a defamation notice. She also criticized Suchitra for her remarks about the 2017 sexual assault survivor and allegations involving high-profile figures such as Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Mohanlal, and Mammootty.

"In the interview, she not only names and shames the survivor but also claims that the Hema Committee was used to undermine actors like Fahadh. We all know why the Hema Committee was formed, and questioning its intentions is misleading," Kallingal added.

In response, the All India Youth Federation (AIYF) has defended Aashiq Abu, calling the accusations against him "planned attacks." The AIYF stated, "We will not allow attacks to be orchestrated against Director Aashiq Abu."

The Malayalam film industry is currently mired in controversy following the release of the Justice Hema Committee report on August 19, 2024. The report reveals severe issues of discrimination, sexual harassment, and unethical working conditions within the industry.

Since its publication, multiple women have come forward with allegations of sexual assault, rape, and exploitation, adding to the industry's turmoil.
