Marking Sunjay's birth anniversary, Priya took to Instagram on Wednesday to pen a long note that began with a quote from the Bhagavad Gita:

"Whatever action a great man performs, others follow. Whatever path he walks, the world pursues. He who lives with purpose and love never perishes, For the divine dwells in all who serve with devotion."

Reflecting on those words, Priya shared that her husband embodied them effortlessly. "You lived these words without ever needing to speak them. You led with kindness, not command. You built with courage, not pride. You gave without expecting, because giving was your nature," she wrote.

She went on to describe Sunjay as a man of quiet strength and deep faith, writing, "I watched you move through storms with grace, carry burdens with calm, and turn every challenge into purpose. You never spoke of faith, you lived it. You believed in doing, not declaring. Even now, your presence feels like quiet strength beside me - in the laughter of our son, in the walls you built with vision, in the stillness of evenings where I feel your peace."

Priya added that Sunjay's greatest legacy was the selfless way he loved. "They say a great man's actions guide the world, but for me, your greatest act was how you loved, selflessly and completely. Some souls don't depart; they expand. You are everywhere, yet still right here. My Sunjay, I know you are watching over me. Happy Birthday, J," she concluded, adding an infinity and dove emoji.

Emotional video tribute

The tribute video Priya shared was a montage of joyful family moments, tracing their journey together - from their wedding celebrations and Karwa Chauth rituals to vacations and candid moments with their son, Azarius. The video also featured Sunjay's narration, where he spoke about his responsibilities as a father and husband.

"I'm here to protect my family. I'm here to make sure I pass on the right values to my children and to my family, and to continue to uphold a certain vision for growth, for honesty, trust, love, and respect," Sunjay is heard saying in the clip.

While Karisma Kapoor herself did not appear in the video, her children, Samaira and Kiaan, were included, as were moments featuring Priya with her mother-in-law, Rani Kapur. The video ended with an emotional clip of Priya standing before Sunjay's photograph with folded hands.

"My Sunjay, you taught us how to visualise and dream big. To believe in ourselves, in continuous self-improvement - that was your mantra. To do our duties and dharma. Your vision will always be alive. You will always stay in motion. You are the best husband, father, friend, and human being I know. Thank you for your eternal love," Priya said through tears.

Legal battle over inheritance

Even as Priya shared her heartfelt remembrance, the late industrialist's family continues to be entangled in a high-profile inheritance dispute.

Sunjay's children from his first marriage with actor Karisma Kapoor - Samaira and Kiaan - have taken legal action against Priya, accusing her of forging his will. Acting through their mother as legal guardian, the two have challenged the authenticity of the will presented earlier this year, claiming it omits their rightful inheritance despite assurances from their father.

During the latest hearing in the Delhi High Court on Tuesday, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing Samaira and Kiaan, launched a strong attack on Priya. "The lady is an acute gambler, good luck to her. Good luck to her but not at the cost of two children being robbed of their inheritance," he told the court.

The lawsuit, which names Priya, her son Azarius, as well as Rani Kapur (Sunjay's mother) and Shradha Suri Marwah (executor of the will), contests the document's validity. According to the children's legal team, the will filed in March 2025 diverges significantly from Sunjay's earlier assurances and contains suspicious allocations of his assets.

Jethmalani alleged that Priya now controls 60% of the estate directly, another 12% through her son, and 75% of the Kapur family trust, describing the situation as "a takeover under the guise of widowhood." He also criticised the exclusion of Sunjay's mother from the will, saying: "Her exclusion defies logic and decency. It shows this document was not written by a son, but by someone who wanted his mother erased from the estate."

When Priya's lawyer described the case as "greedy," Jethmalani hit back, saying, "Everything they receive comes from their grandmother and father. You call them greedy? Your greed, Madam, is far greater - and it's written into every line of this will."

A family divided

Sunjay Kapur, the chairman of Sona Comstar, passed away on June 12, 2024, in London, reportedly after suffering a heart attack while playing polo. He was previously married to actor Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016, and they share two children, Samaira and Kiaan. In 2017, he married Priya Sachdev, with whom he has a son, Azarius.
