Is Reliance Set To Acquire A Stake In Karan Johar's Dharma Productions? Social Media Account Bio Says This
Recent reports have sparked curiosity around the potential stake acquisition in Dharma Productions by Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries, alongside rumors of the RP Sanjiv Goenka-owned Saregama possibly taking over the production house.
Yet, amidst the speculation, Dharma Productions' Instagram bio has drawn attention for its confident ownership claim, stating, "Owned by Karan Johar & CEO Apoorva Mehta."

The Takeover Buzz
As speculation circulates about Reliance's interest in acquiring a minority stake in Dharma, industry insiders are abuzz. A source quoted in The Economic Times shared that Reliance may explore a partnership with Dharma similar to its investment in Balaji Telefilms, adding that Johar has been exploring options to monetize his ownership in Dharma for some time. The discussions, however, have faced hurdles over valuation disagreements. Dharma Productions is reportedly 90.7% owned by Karan Johar, with his mother, Hiroo Johar, holding the remaining 9.3%.
Social media platforms have been flooded with reactions to the potential acquisition. With the persistent speculation, Dharma's Instagram bio has become a talking point, subtly reinforcing Johar's role at the company's helm.

Saregama's Interest and Industry Challenges
Reports last week hinted at Saregama's potential interest in acquiring Dharma Productions. However, sources told Mint that the deal remains in preliminary stages and may ultimately not materialize. Despite Saregama's interest, industry insiders suggest challenges lie ahead.
Karan Johar took over Dharma Productions following the passing of his father, Yash Johar, in 2003, and has since produced blockbusters like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, My Name Is Khan, and Student of the Year. However, recent industry trends-rising production costs, lower theatre attendance, and a shift towards streaming have pressured traditional production houses, including Dharma.
Dharma Productions and the Future
Dharma Productions remains a leading name in Bollywood, but its latest release, Jigra starring Alia Bhatt, has had a modest box office performance, illustrating the tough market conditions production houses now face. Whether or not the rumoured partnerships go through, these reports underscore the evolving landscape in Bollywood and the broader entertainment industry.
