Empuraan Booking: Mohanlal-Starrer Film Shatters Records on BookMyShow – Did It Beat Pushpa 2?
With an overwhelming response from the audience, 'Empuraan,' the most expensive film in Mollywood's history, has witnessed a rush for its tickets, which started selling from 9 am on Friday. This surge in demand led to a temporary crash of the 'Book My Show' application, highlighting the immense anticipation surrounding the movie's release on March 27. Reports suggest that theaters across Kerala are witnessing sold-out shows for the opening day, indicating a blockbuster start is on the horizon.
The advance booking for Empuraan opened for Indian audiences on Friday, March 21, at 9 AM. Within just an hour, nearly 93,500 tickets were sold on BookMyShow.

According to several posts on X, Empuraan has surpassed the pre-booking record of Pushpa 2, which sold around 80,000 tickets in the same time frame on BookMyShow. However, Mint could not independently verify this claim.
In the overseas market, Empuraan has already crossed ₹10 crore in opening-day pre-sales-seven days before its release-marking the highest-ever advance sales for a Malayalam film, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.
The sequel to the 2019 hit 'Lucifer,' 'Empuraan' is not just a cinematic event but also a testament to Mohanlal's enduring star power. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film promises to captivate audiences with its thrilling narrative and stellar performances. Produced by Antony Perumbavoor and Gokulam Gopalan through 'Aashirvad Cinemas' and 'Gokulam Movies,' the film boasts a strong creative team. With a script penned by Murali Gopi and Sujith Vasudev handling the cinematography, expectations are sky-high for this multi-lingual release.
'Empuraan' is set to break language barriers by being released in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu. This wide release strategy not only underscores the film's universal appeal but also expands its potential audience base. The decision to launch the movie in multiple languages is a strategic move that is expected to significantly boost its box office collection.
Record-Breaking Box Office Predictions
The financial projections for 'Empuraan' are nothing short of spectacular, with industry insiders predicting a whopping Rs 50 crore in collections on the opening day alone. This figure not only underscores the film's massive popularity but also highlights the lucrative nature of the film industry in Kerala. Such a monumental start would set a new benchmark for Mollywood, underlining the growing clout of regional cinema on the national stage.
Unfortunately, the high demand has led to many fans being unable to secure tickets for the first day, leaving them disheartened.
