Will Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore Get World's Largest Cricket Stadium? Here Is The Latest Update
Coimbatore may soon become home to a world-class cricket stadium, with reports suggesting that Tamil Nadu is planning a massive facility.
Rumours have circulated that this new stadium could eclipse the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which currently holds the record as the world's largest cricket venue with a seating capacity of 132,000.

However, top officials have told DTNext that the seating capacity of the proposed stadium has not been finalised. J.
Meghanatha Reddy, Member Secretary of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), confirmed to the website that while a work order has been issued, no specifications regarding seating capacity or design model have been finalized yet.
When asked if the stadium would draw inspiration from existing venues, Reddy said, "Once we engage the design consultant, we plan to visit a couple of cricket stadiums along with the design consultant. The cost would also be worked out only after engaging the design consultant and based on the project report they submit."
Contrary to earlier reports that suggested the need for 200 acres of land, Reddy clarified that only 20 acres are required for the ground and an additional 8 acres for parking facilities. He stated that the primary goal is to build a stadium with world-class infrastructure and a top-notch viewing experience for spectators.
The state government is set to issue work orders for design consultancy in October, following a successful pre-bid meeting with potential bidders. The deadline for submitting bids is September 26-27, and once the design consultant is engaged, the project will move forward, the report said citing sources.
As per an earlier story, the stadium is expected to be located 16 kilometers from Coimbatore city on National Highway 544, connecting Salem and Kochi. Of the 200 acres owned by the State Prisons Department at the site, 198 acres will be allocated for the stadium after the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is finalized.
While details about the seating capacity are still under wraps, the Coimbatore stadium is poised to become a major hub for cricket in Tamil Nadu, offering a world-class experience for players and fans alike.
Nonetheless, there are speculations that the Coimbatore stadium might have 30,000-40,000 seating capacity.
