What Did Thalapathy Vijay Say About Tamil Nadu Budget 2025? Check TVK Chief's Reaction
Finance Minister Thangam Thenarasu on Friday presented Budget 2025-26 in the Assembly, a full-fledged exercise ahead of the state election next year. The DMK government has made big allocations for its flagship welfare schemes, including the fare-free bus travel scheme for women and announced one per cent reduction in registration fee for immovable assets registered in their name.
What Vijay Welcome?

In a press release, he welcomed certain welfare announcements but questioned the credibility of the government's promises. In a two-page letter, Vijay acknowledged the positive aspects of the budget, including the establishment of new industrial parks, financial aid for orphaned children, and registration fee concessions for women.
However, he raised doubts about whether these would ever see the light of day, citing the government's history of unfulfilled promises.
What Vijay Criticise?
He took specific aim at the quality of higher education, questioning the effectiveness of opening new government colleges without ensuring academic excellence. He also criticized the lack of a clear timeline for distributing laptops to school students while announcing their return for college students.
Slamming the government's infrastructure plans, he called out the inconsistency in road development. He also expressed concern over Anna University's safety measures for female students and accused the DMK of betraying farmers in the Parandur region with its push for an airport project without addressing public concerns.
On economic issues, Vijay pointed out the government's failure to tackle rising prices and unfulfilled election promises, such as the ₹100 gas subsidy and a reduction in petrol and diesel costs. He also questioned the government's silence on restoring the old pension scheme for government employees and job regularization.
Taking a dig at both the DMK and the BJP, Vijay remarked that the central government ignored Tamil Nadu in its budget, while the state government ignored its own people. He accused the DMK of running a governance model based on marketing rather than real welfare and warned that the 2026 state elections would bring a strong response from the people.
