Tamil Nadu Weather Update: 10 Dists On Yellow Alert; Chennai To Get Moderate Rains Today

The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for 10 districts in Tamil Nadu for Tuesday.

Heavy rainfall is expected in Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari. For Wednesday, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, and Ramanathapuram are also on yellow alert.

In Chennai, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rain are likely on Tuesday.

According to the weather agency's daily bulletin, "A cyclonic circulation persists over South Tamil Nadu and the adjoining Comorin area at 1.5 km above mean sea level. Additionally, an upper air cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the South Andaman Sea and nearby regions around November 21, 2024. This system is likely to develop into a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal by November 23, 2024. Subsequently, it may intensify into a depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal within the following two days."

Meanwhile, the cyclonic circulation over the Comorin area and its neighborhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level has weakened.

On Monday, Kanyakumari recorded the highest maximum temperature at 33.2°C, while Erode reported the lowest minimum temperature at 16.5°C.

In terms of rainfall, Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam received the highest amount, recording 10 cm. It was followed by Kodiayakarai (Nagapattinam) with 9 cm, Velankanni (Nagapattinam) with 8 cm, and Nalumukku, Oothu, and Kakkachi (Tirunelveli) along with Sembanarkoil PWD (Mayiladuthurai) at 7 cm each.
