Tamil Nadu Weather: 10 Districts On Yellow Alert, Chennai Likely To Get Moderate Rain Today

At least 10 districts will get heavy rains in Tamil Nadu as the Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert.

Dharmapuri, Salem, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Villuppuram, Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram Districts & Puducherry are expected to get heavy rains on Friday.

Similarly, eight districts such as Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts & Karaikal area will receive heavy rains on Friday.

Chennai Rains

On the other hand, parts of the KTCC (Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu) received intense storms on Thursday night. Chennai witnessed heavy downpours on Thursday, with Okkiyam Thoraipakkam recording the highest rainfall at 12 cm. It was closely followed by Injambakkam (Zone 15) and Raja Annamalaipuram (Zone 13), which both received 11 cm.

Other notable rainfall figures include 10 cm in Adyar (Zone 13), while Pallikaranai (Zone 14), Kannagi Nagar (Zone 15), and Medavakkam (Zone 14) each recorded 9 cm. Saidapet (Zone 10) and Neelankarai (Zone 15) also experienced substantial rain, measuring 7 cm.

Talking about the rains, weather blogger R Pradeep John wrote, "Thunderstorms are slowly getting back into Tamil Nadu after dry days. Intense storms seen southern part of KTCC from Thirukalakundram to ECR belts of Mahabs and Kalpakkam. Earlier, parts of Trichy, Salem, Madurai, Thanjavur, Erode, Cuddalore all got some isolated thunderstorms."

One or two spells of light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning are likely to occur in some areas of Chennai on Friday.

As per the weather agency, Madurai recorded the highest maximum temperature of 39.5°C and Karur recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 20.5°C in the plains of
the state.
