Tamil Nadu School Holiday On July 8: Is Schools & Colleges Be Opened In These Dists Tomorrow?
The educational institutions in Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli in Tamil Naduwill remain closed on July 7 (Monday) and July 8 (Tuesday), respectively, to observe major temple festivals in the region. However, there is no holiday for Chennai schools or educational institutions for other districts.
In Thoothukudi, the holiday on July 7 has been announced for the Thiruchendur Temple's Kudamuzhakkai festival. All schools and colleges in the district will remain closed, though students, teachers, and officials involved in government examinations must attend as scheduled.

To compensate for the holiday, Saturday, July 19, has been designated as a working day, with further details to be announced.
Meanwhile, in Tirunelveli, the holiday on July 8 marks the Nellaiyappar Gandhimati Amman Temple Chariot Festival. Schools, colleges, and state government offices will remain closed.
However, government examinations will proceed as planned, meaning students, teachers, and exam-related staff must report for duty. Since the holiday is not covered under the Negotiable Instruments Act, banks will operate normally, while government treasuries will function with minimal staff. Similar to Thoothukudi, Saturday, July 19, will be a compensatory working day in Tirunelveli.
Looking ahead, the second half of 2025 offers several long weekends due to public holidays falling near weekends. August 15-17 (Friday to Sunday) will provide an extended break for Independence Day. September 5-7 (Friday to Sunday) will see another three-day weekend for Milad-un-Nabi. October 18-20 (Saturday to Monday) will include Deepavali on Monday, creating a festive long weekend.
Finally, December 25-27 (Thursday to Saturday) will combine Christmas with the weekend, potentially allowing for an extended break if institutions grant an additional day off.
Upcoming Long Weekends in 2025
Several public holidays in late 2025 will create three-day weekends:
Aug 15-17 (Fri-Sun): Independence Day (Aug 15, Friday).
Sep 5-7 (Fri-Sun): Milad-un-Nabi (Sep 5, Friday).
Oct 18-20 (Sat-Mon): Deepavali (Oct 20, Monday).
Dec 25-27 (Thu-Sat): Christmas (Dec 25, Thursday), possibly extending if institutions declare Friday off.
