Tamil Nadu School Holiday On August 6: Schools, Colleges To Remain Closed In This District Due To Rain

Nilgiris district schools will remain closed today (Tuesday) as the Chennai Meteorological Department has issued a Red Alert warning, forecasting very heavy rain across the region.

District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya declared a holiday for all schools as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students.

The intense rainfall poses risks such as landslides and falling trees, especially in hilly areas. Alongside school closures, all tourist attractions in the Nilgiris have also been shut for the day to protect visitors.

To manage potential emergencies, the District Emergency Control Center will function round the clock. Additional control centers have also been set up in RTO and Tahsildar offices, with the district administration assuring swift response to any rain-related incidents.

RMC Issues Alert

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued orange and yellow alerts for multiple districts in Tamil Nadu, warning of heavy rainfall in several parts of the state today. Thirteen districts, along with the Union Territory of Puducherry, are expected to witness intense weather activity, with isolated heavy rains and thunderstorms likely.

An orange alert, indicating the likelihood of extremely heavy rain, has been sounded for isolated areas in the Nilgiris and the Ghat regions of Coimbatore district. Residents in these regions are advised to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines due to the possibility of flooding and landslides.
