TN polls: Will another May 16 go Jayalalithaa's way?
Chennai, May 14: May 16 will thrown an opportunity at J Jayalalithaa to create history. It was on this date two years ago that her AIADMK had swept the Lok Sabha election in Tamil Nadu and emerged the third-largest party after the BJP and Congress with 37 seats (total Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu are 39).

Though Jayalalithaa did not enjoy the same political clout at the Centre despite the mammoth win because the NDA got a majority, but she continued to dominate the state's politics. She even came back after getting convicted in a two-decade-old disproportionate assets case in September 2014 and is seeking the people's mandate to become the chief minister for a record sixth time. Jaya also took oath on May 16 after her massive victory in 2011
May 16 was also memorable for her in the 2011 Assembly election, which again, her party had swept by winning 150 seats itself (total number of Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu is 234). It was on this date that she took oath as the chief minister for her fourth term. That year, the AIADMK alliance produced its second-best performance ever by winning 203 seats, after the post-Rajiv Gandhi assassination poll in 1991 in which it won 225.
Can Jayalalithaa make a hat-trick this May 16? May 19 has the answer.
