Tamil Nadu Cabinet Reshuffle - LIVE Updates: Senthil Balaji, Others Take Oath As Ministers

High-profile DMK leader V Senthil Balaji, who was days ago granted bail by the Supreme Court in a money laundering case, was sworn in as minister by Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi here on Sunday.

Three other DMK legislators, R Rajendran (Salem-North), Govi Chezhiaan (Thiruvidaimarudur) and S M Nasar (Avadi) also took the oath of office and secrecy administered by Governor Ravi in a simple ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan.

They were sworn-in in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, his son Udhayanidhi, who had already been designated as Deputy Chief Minister.

Junior Stalin Elevated

DMK leader and State Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has been elevated to the position of the Deputy Chief Minister on Saturday. He is currently serving as Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development. Also, he will also take on the portfolio of planning and development. Stalin is likely to take the oath as the Deputy CM later today.

Dairy Development Minister Mano Thangaraj, Minorities Welfare Minister K S Masthan, and Tourism Minister K Ramachandran have been dropped from the cabinet. Nasar, who had been removed 16 months ago, has made a return, although portfolios for the new members are yet to be assigned.

As part of the reshuffle, Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy has been moved to Forests, Siva V Meyyanathan from Environment and Climate Change to Backward Classes, Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister N Kayalvizhi Selvaraj to Human Resources Management, and Forests Minister M Mathiventhan to Adi Dravidar Welfare.

R S Rajakannappan has been transferred from Backward Classes Welfare to Dairy Development, while Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu has taken on Environment and Climate Change as an additional portfolio.
