    What is HMPV?

HMPV, or Human Metapneumovirus, is a respiratory virus that primarily affects young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. First identified in 2001, the virus belongs to the same family as respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and is known to cause symptoms ranging from mild cold-like signs to severe respiratory illnesses, such as pneumonia and bronchitis.

    Symptoms to Watch Out For

The symptoms of HMPV are often similar to those of other respiratory infections and can include:

    • Fever
    • Cough
    • Nasal congestion
    • Shortness of breath
    • Wheezing
    • Fatigue

Severe cases may require hospitalization, particularly for vulnerable groups like infants and older adults.
