DMK, BJP Engage In War Of Words On Social Media As #GetOutStalin, #GetOutModi Trends On X
The political rivalry between Tamil Nadu's ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) escalated on Friday, February 21, as the state BJP launched the hashtag #GetOutStalin to challenge what it described as the DMK's corrupt governance.
The hashtag quickly gained traction, amassing over a million posts and becoming a trending topic on 'X'.

The social media confrontation began after Tamil Nadu's Deputy Chief Minister, Udhayanidhi Stalin, criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded that the Union government release the state's share of funds.
He warned that if the funds were not provided, the DMK would intensify its rhetoric from 'Go Back Modi' to 'Get Out Modi.'
In response, the hashtag #GetOutModi started trending, prompting BJP state chief K. Annamalai to retaliate by initiating the #GetOutStalin campaign.
Tensions between the DMK and the BJP have been further aggravated by the Centre's insistence on implementing the three-language formula-Tamil, English, and Hindi-in Tamil Nadu as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The Centre has withheld ₹2,190 crore in education funds under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, conditioning their release on the adoption of the three-language policy. The DMK, historically opposed to the imposition of Hindi, has strongly resisted these efforts.
Meanwhile, BJP state president Annamalai strongly criticised Udhayanidhi Stalin, referring to him as 'da.' "If you are an actual man, try uttering the words 'Get Out Modi,'" he challenged.
"You do not know how to respect a world leader. You are a small child," he said, addressing Udhayanidhi Stalin.
The political spat further escalated when Udhayanidhi dared Annamalai to visit Anna Salai, where the DMK headquarters is located. "If Annamalai has the guts, let him come to Anna Salai."
Annamalai responded, saying, "You specify the exact location where I need to come. I will come alone when I visit Chennai next time after February 26."
He also issued a challenge to the DMK IT wing, asserting that #GetOutStalin would surpass #GetOutModi in popularity. The Tamil Nadu BJP began its #GetOutStalin campaign on social media from 6 am on Friday.
Declaring victory over the DMK in the online battle, Annamalai stated, "The people of Tamil Nadu are making their voices heard! They see the development politics of our Hon PM Thiru @narendramodi avl on one side and the other, the draconian rule of the DMK Govt, which has pushed TN into an era of darkness." (sic)
He further claimed that these anti-Stalin sentiments on social media would translate into real votes in the 2026 Assembly elections, leading to Chief Minister Stalin's removal from power.
