Chennai Power Cut On November 11: These Areas Are Affected With Power Supply On Monday

Over 20 locations in Chennai will be hit by power supply on Monday, November 11.

The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation on Sunday evening announced that several areas in Royapuram will be hit by power supply due to maintenance work.

"On 11.11.2024 from 09.00 am to 2.00 pm power supply will be suspended at the following places due to maintenance work of power board. Power supply will be provided on completion of maintenance work by 2.00 pm," the post from the electricity board read on X.

The prolonged power outage that affected much of Chennai, particularly the northern regions, on September 12, could have been averted if officials had opted for a 300 MW load shedding without waiting for "management approval", according to a report.

This acknowledgment came from officials at the Tamil Nadu State Load Despatch Centre (TNSLDC) during the recent Southern Regional Power Committee (SRPC) meeting. The committee criticized the TNSLDC for lacking a standard operating procedure to handle major grid emergencies and prevent such blackouts, the report added.

Even more concerning, the TNSLDC did not take corrective measures following this incident, which disrupted the lives of millions. The regional committee pointed out that similar failures had occurred multiple times in the days leading up to the meeting.
