Chennai Metro Records 86.99 Lakh Ridership In January 2025
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) continues to serve as a vital transportation option for Chennai residents, emphasizing safety, efficiency, and reliability.
In January 2025, CMRL recorded a total ridership of 86,99,344 passengers. The peak daily ridership occurred on January 10, 2025, with 3,60,997 commuters utilizing the metro services.

To enhance passenger convenience, CMRL offers a 20% discount on various ticketing options, including Metro Travel Cards, Mobile QR Code ticketing (Single, Return, Group Tickets, and QR Trip passes), as well as through platforms like WhatsApp, Paytm, PhonePe, and NCMC Cards. Passengers can book tickets via the CMRL WhatsApp Ticketing System at +91 83000 86000 and through Paytm.
CMRL extends its gratitude to passengers for their continuous support and cooperation.

Reflecting on annual performance, CMRL experienced a significant increase in ridership in 2024, with 10.52 crore passengers utilizing the metro services, up from 9.11 crore in 2023. Since commencing operations on June 29, 2015, Chennai Metro has served a cumulative total of 35.53 crore passengers as of December 31, 2024.
The ridership required for CMRL to break even is 4.33 lakh passengers per day, according to a detailed project report (DPR). In its initial three years of operation, up to December 31, 2018, the metro catered to 2.8 crore passengers.
