Chennai Dog Attack Incident: 5-Year-Old Girl Is Healthy, To Undergo Surgery On Thursday

The father of the 5-year-old girl, who was attacked by two Rottweiler dogs at a corporation park on Sunday, has said that his daughter will undergo surgery on Thursday.

Speaking to the media, Raghu said that he wants his daughter R Sudaksha to come back home hale and healthy.

He said, "I don't need any money. My daughter should come back home hale and healthy, that is enough for me. The hospital has said that they will bring doctors from abroad and that they are going to do her surgery on Thursday."

Suraksha, along with her father Raghu (28) and mother Sonia (24), resides in a one-room situated in the park on Nungambakkam High Road.

At approximately 7:30 pm on Sunday, while playing in the park, the child was viciously attacked by two pet dogs, resulting in severe injuries. Reports indicate that the girl's mother, attempting to intervene and protect her child, was also bitten by the dogs. During the incident, the child's father was away in his hometown of Villupuram.

"Usually, Pugazhendhi, who lives nearby, would bring the dogs to the park for a walk and tie them up. But on Sunday, he did not tie them up. As Suraksha was playing near the park swing, the dogs attacked her," New Indian Express quoted Raghu as saying.

The Thousand Lights police have filed a case and arrested a family comprising Pugalendi, Dhanalakshmi, and their son Venkateswaran on charges of negligence and endangering public safety.

A case has been booked under Sections 289 (negligent conduct with respect to animals) and 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others).

After paying a visit to the hospital, Corporation Commissioner Dr J Radhakrishnan said the incident will be treated like a stray dog menace and act accordingly, given the evident negligence of the pet owner.

He said, "Currently her condition is stable but she is under great pain. Her scalp was ripped for 11 inches and she was bitten in the legs and other places.
