Items That Became Cheaper

  • 37 life-saving medicines, including 36 drugs for cancer and rare diseases.
  • Cobalt products, LEDs, zinc, lithium-ion battery scrap, and 12 critical minerals.
  • Raw materials for shipbuilding
  • The Basic Customs Duty on fish pasteurii will be reduced to 5% from the current 30%.
  • To support the handicraft sector, the government has announced a scheme to promote handicraft exports further.
  • The government will also fully exempt wet blue leather from Basic Customs Duty.

Items That Became Costlier

  • The government has proposed to increase the Basic Customs Duty on interactive flat-panel displays from 10% to 20%, aiming to correct the inverted duty structure.

In addition, a time limit of two years for provisional assessment has been proposed by the Finance Minister.

Last year's Union Budget had already brought reductions in prices for mobile phones, gold, silver, and copper. Three cancer treatment medicines were also exempted from Basic Customs Duty.

In 2024, the government had also proposed an increase in customs duties on non-biodegradable plastics to 25%, and customs duty on specified telecom equipment went up from 10% to 15%.
