No Bail For Actor Darshan, Pavithra Gowda In Shocking Renuka Swamy Murder Case
A sessions court in Bengaluru on Monday dismissed the bail petitions of popular Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and his friend Pavithra Gowda in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case.
As per police reports, the 33-year-old victim, Renukaswamy, who was a fan of the actor, had allegedly sent inappropriate messages to Pavithra Gowda. This reportedly infuriated Darshan, leading to the fan's murder. Renukaswamy's body was discovered near a stormwater drain beside an apartment complex in Sumanahalli, Bengaluru, on June 9.

In September, Bengaluru police filed a detailed charge sheet consisting of 3,991 pages against 17 individuals implicated in the Renukaswamy murder case. Among those named in the charge sheet are Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and his friend Pavithra Gowda.
Darshan, who has been in custody since June 11 in connection with the murder, applied for bail, which has become a subject of intense media coverage. Special Public Prosecutor Prasanna Kumar, representing the police, put forward a strong case, while Darshan's lawyer, senior advocate C.V. Nagesh, argued in favor of his client's release, emphasizing the lack of concrete evidence linking him to the crime.
Should Darshan's bail application be denied, there is speculation that his legal team may appeal to the High Court in an effort to secure his release.
In addition to the legal developments, reports have surfaced that Darshan is experiencing severe back pain. Although authorities at the Ballary jail had arranged for medical treatment, the actor allegedly refused, insisting instead on being transferred to Bengaluru for further care. This health issue has added another layer of complexity to the case.
Reports indicate that Darshan's legal team has been meticulously working to secure his release, with expectations that a hearing later this week may result in bail. Legal experts suggest that the defense is relying heavily on the argument that there is insufficient evidence directly implicating the actor in the murder.
Meanwhile, three other individuals initially arrested in connection with the case have already been granted conditional bail, with the murder charges against them dropped.
The murder of 33-year-old Renuka Swamy shocked Bengaluru when his body was discovered near Sumanahalli Bridge on June 9. The post-mortem report revealed gruesome details, including multiple bruise marks, a missing ear, and ruptured testicles. The report concluded that Swamy had died from "shock and hemorrhage due to multiple blunt injuries sustained," likely from being attacked with wooden clubs. Disturbing crime scene images shared by India Today TV show significant bruising across Swamy's body, further highlighting the brutality of the assault.
Actor Darshan, along with Pavithra Gowda and 15 others, was arrested in connection with the case just two days after Swamy's body was found. Since then, the case has drawn significant public attention due to Darshan's involvement and the horrific nature of the crime.
