Passengers inside were left both awestruck and terrified, their shouts and screams audible in the background.

Safety Measures in Place

Fortunately, the bus's reinforced glass windows held firm, ensuring the passengers remained unharmed. The event highlights the protective measures in place for visitor safety during the safari, as well as the heightened level of precaution required when entering wildlife territories.

India's Largest Leopard Safari at Bannerghatta

This encounter took place in the newly inaugurated leopard safari zone at Bannerghatta Biological Park, launched by Karnataka's Minister for Forests, Ecology, and Environment, Eshwar Khandre, in June. The safari zone is being hailed as South India's first and the country's largest of its kind, sprawling across approximately 20 hectares (nearly 50 acres) of deciduous forest. Home to eight leopards, the safari aims to provide visitors with an immersive experience, allowing them to observe these magnificent animals in their natural habitat.

Measures to Prevent Animal Escapes

Designed with multiple layers of security to prevent any possible escapes, the safari area is enclosed by a combination of railway barricades and a 4.5-meter-high chain-link fence. For added security, 1.5-meter metal sheets have been installed at a 30-degree angle along the perimeter, ensuring that even the agile leopards are unable to scale the fence. These precautions are aligned with the guidelines issued by the Central Zoo Authority to ensure safety for both visitors and the animals.

Promoting Wildlife Awareness and Conservation

Beyond its appeal as a tourist attraction, Bannerghatta Biological Park has taken on an educational role, aiming to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of wildlife conservation. During the safari's inauguration, Minister Khandre emphasized the importance of zoos as centres for conservation knowledge and not merely entertainment. To promote environmental awareness, park officials offer saplings to visitors at discounted rates and provide educational information on various tree species native to the region, so guests leave with a better understanding of the local ecology.

Bannerghatta's Commitment to Sustainable Tourism

Bannerghatta Biological Park is committed to sustainable tourism and conservation efforts. By providing a safe, controlled environment for observing these big cats, the park contributes to India's broader conservation goals while offering tourists a rare glimpse into the lives of leopards
