Severe Weather Alert In Karnataka: Heavy Rains to Continue For Next 3 Days. Predicts IMD
As heavy rains continue to drench parts of South India, including Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, Dr. N Puviarasan, Head of the Meteorology Department, predicted that Karnataka will experience rainfall for the next three days due to a well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal and an upper-level trough extending to the southern coast of Karnataka.
"Due to the well-marked low pressure over the Bay of Bengal and the upper-level trough reaching the south coast of Karnataka, we are seeing northeast monsoon rainfall. The low pressure is expected to move inland either tomorrow or the day after, so we anticipate rain for the next three days. Today, we expect heavy rainfall, while tomorrow, very heavy rain is likely in coastal and southern interior Karnataka," said Dr. N Puviarasan.

Amidst these heavy rain forecasts, several areas have been placed on high alert. The Bengaluru Urban District Collector has declared a holiday for tomorrow in anticipation of severe weather.
Given the forecast from the Meteorological Department, the Bengaluru Urban District Collector has announced a holiday for Anganwadi centers, primary schools, and high schools tomorrow.
In a tweet, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed the developments: "The well-marked low-pressure area over the central part of the south Bay of Bengal has moved west-northwestwards and is currently centered over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal as of 11:30 AM IST, October 15, 2024."
The IMD further stated, "It is expected to intensify into a depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal in the next 12 hours, continuing its west-northwestward movement and approaching the coasts of northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh by early morning on October 17 as a depression."
