RCB Fans Pay Less for Match Tickets Than Metro Rides After Fare Hike!
The recent hike in metro fares has already led to a decline in ridership, posing financial challenges for the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL). In an effort to accommodate cricket fans, BMRCL is extending metro services for the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 matches in Bengaluru. However, an interesting contrast has emerged-while a ticket to watch a WPL T20 match costs just ₹100, commuters traveling from the last metro stations will have to pay ₹180 for a round-trip metro ticket.
BMRCL has announced that on match days at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, the last metro train will depart at 11:20 PM from the terminal stations of the Purple and Green Lines-Challaghatta, Whitefield, Madavara, and Silk Institute. Additionally, the final train from Majestic's Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station towards all four directions will leave at 11:55 PM.

The Tata Women's Premier League (WPL) T20 matches are scheduled to take place in Bengaluru on February 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, and March 1, 2025. To ensure smooth travel for spectators, BMRCL has extended metro services on the Purple and Green Lines on these dates. Passengers can use QR tickets, smart cards, National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC), and tokens for their journeys.
Recently, BMRCL increased metro fares by 46% to 100% on some routes. The revised rates set the end-to-end fare at ₹90, while travel from Majestic to any last station now costs ₹70 each way, amounting to ₹140 for a round trip. This means that a commuter using the metro to reach and return from the stadium may end up spending more on transport than on the cricket match itself.
BMRCL has urged the public to take advantage of the extended metro services during the WPL matches. However, the higher metro fares compared to match tickets have raised eyebrows among commuters and cricket enthusiasts alike.
