Phoenix Mall Of Asia Flooded After Intense Rain In Bengaluru's Yelahanka

Bengaluru's Phoenix Mall of Asia in the Yelahanka area was inundated with water following severe thunderstorms on Tuesday. Social media footage revealed that the entire parking lot and entrance of the mall were flooded, complicating access for visitors.

As one of the newest and largest malls in the region, this facility in northern Bengaluru has faced significant challenges. The heavy rainfall transformed the surrounding area into a waterlogged environment. The mall's management is currently working to drain the water to restore accessibility for customers.

Since its opening in 2023, the mall has frequently made headlines for various issues, raising concerns about its location. Last year, Bengaluru police ordered the mall's management to shut down for 15 days due to traffic disruptions caused in the northern sector of the tech city. Following this directive from City Police Commissioner B Dayananda, the mall management contested the order in court. The mall's unregulated parking arrangements contributed to severe traffic congestion in the vicinity.

In light of the ongoing weather conditions, the IMD has issued an orange alert for rainfall in Bengaluru, predicting continued rains until tomorrow. In response, the Karnataka government announced a holiday for all schools and colleges in the city on Wednesday. Bengaluru Urban District Collector Jagadeesha issued this order on Tuesday evening, anticipating that rain will persist for the coming days.

The government also recommended that IT, BT, and private companies allow employees to work from home on Wednesday due to the likelihood of widespread traffic delays and challenging commutes.
