New Year Gift For Bengaluru: Driverless Yellow Line Metro to Travel On Elevated Flyovers
As we step into 2025, Bengaluru is set to welcome an exciting addition to its public transport network-the RV Road-Bommasandra Namma metro yellow line! Starting this January, this new driverless metro service will connect the bustling IT and BT hubs, providing a seamless commute for thousands of professionals, including those at renowned companies like Infosys.
The driverless metro will cover a distance of 19.15 kilometers, connecting RV Road and Bommasandra, with a total of 16 stations. Additionally, 24 CCTV cameras will be installed inside the metro coaches, with two cameras at the front to capture the journey. This metro service will operate on an elevated track, with stations located on roads and double-decker flyovers, which is another unique feature.

Meanwhile, there has been a lukewarm response from commuters on the Madavara and Nagasandra metro routes. The Green Line, from Madavara to Silk Institute, and the Nagasandra to Madavara metro routes have not seen an increase in passenger numbers. These metro services began on November 7 without any formal inauguration. The Madjunathnagar, Chikkabidarkallu, and Madavara stations are part of this 3.14-kilometer route. Despite being operational for three weeks, the number of passengers has not increased.
BMRC had initially expected 40,000 to 45,000 passengers daily. However, between November 7 and 30, the average number of passengers across the three stations was only between 8,000 and 11,000. The Madavara metro, in particular, had only 4,000 to 7,000 passengers. BMRC is implementing various strategies to boost ridership. Meanwhile, passengers believe that if metro services are extended to Hosur Road on the Yellow Line, it will significantly benefit commuters.
Overall, once the Yellow line connecting RV Road to Bommasandra metro line begins operations, it is expected to greatly benefit the thousands of tech professionals and commuters working in IT and BT companies along the route.
