New Corridor Project: Bengaluru's 73-Km Expressway Connecting Tumkur Road To Hosur

Bengaluru's traffic congestion has long been a thorn in the side of its residents and commuters. Now, after years of delays and setbacks, a glimmer of hope emerges with the revival of the 71-km stretch Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) project under a new name: the Bangalore Business Corridor (BBC).

Inviting global tenders for construction, the Bangalore Business Corridor is envisioned as a 100-meter-wide, 73-kilometer-long expressway connecting Tumkur Road and Hosur Road.

Intended to alleviate traffic congestion, the 8-lane expressway will traverse 77 villages, including crucial routes like Hesarghatta Road, Doddaballapur Road, Bellary Road, Hennur Road, Old Madras Road, Hoskote Road, and Sarjapur. Despite setbacks and failed attempts to kickstart the project in 2022, the BDA, facing land compensation disputes, now aims to expedite the process through a private-public partnership model by inviting global tenders.

The BBC project, deemed critical for the city, has identified 2,596 acres of land for construction, with the selected company adhering to compensation guidelines outlined in the BDA Act for affected farmers. Commissioner of BDA, N Jayaram, highlighted the project's significance in controlling traffic and contributing to Bangalore's comprehensive future development.

The estimated construction cost for the Bangalore Business Corridor is approximately Rs. 27,000 crores, with Rs. 21,000 crores allocated for farmer compensation. The BDA underscores adherence to older land acquisition laws per the Supreme Court's ruling, sparking calls for reassessment and support for affected farmers. The BBC project reflects a renewed commitment to address the city's infrastructure challenges and foster holistic development.
