Karnataka's KEA Enforces Ban On Head Coverings In Recruitment Exams, Mangalsutra Allowed
The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has introduced a prohibition on all head coverings in recruitment exams for boards and corporations to curb fraudulent practices, particularly cheating facilitated by Bluetooth devices.
Although the dress code specified by the exam body did not explicitly mention the hijab among the prohibited items, the regulations against head covers will effectively restrict its use during the recruitment examinations.

In response to objections raised by right-wing organizations, mangalsutras (beaded necklaces worn by married Hindu women) and toe rings have been permitted following protests.
The directive was issued just ahead of scheduled board and corporation exams slated for November 18 and 19 throughout the state. According to the KEA, any attire or headgear concealing the head, mouth, or ears will be disallowed in the examination hall. This measure is aimed at deterring malpractices involving Bluetooth devices during exams.
Notably, during the recruitment exams conducted in October, the KEA had previously permitted the wearing of hijabs.
