Karnataka Weather Update: Bengaluru Heats Up, IMD Warns of More Heat, Temperatures Climbing to Record Highs

Bengaluru is witnessing unusually high temperatures, surpassing even Delhi in recent days. The city's maximum temperature has been steadily rising, signaling an early onset of summer. On Thursday, Bengaluru recorded a high of 33.3°C, which is 2.7°C above normal for this time of year. In contrast, Delhi remained cooler at 29°C, making Bengaluru one of the hottest major cities in India at the moment.

Despite the soaring daytime heat, Bengaluru's nights still retain a winter chill. The minimum temperature dipped to 17.1°C, slightly below the seasonal average. Meanwhile, Delhi experienced a much cooler night at 10°C, reinforcing the stark contrast between the two cities' weather patterns.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), above-normal temperatures have been observed not only in Bengaluru but also in Chitradurga, Chintamani, and Mysuru. Forecasts predict that Bengaluru's mercury will rise further over the weekend, with daytime temperatures expected to touch 34°C while nights may cool down to 16°C.

Bengaluru's Warming Trend

Historically, Bengaluru's February average temperatures have hovered around 30.9°C (max) and 17.6°C (min) over the past three decades (1990-2020). However, recent years have seen a consistent upward trend, with February highs ranging between 33°C and 35.5°C. The city's hottest February day on record was February 17, 2005, when temperatures soared to 35.9°C, while the coldest recorded February temperature was 9.6°C on February 6, 1884.

What's Ahead?

With clear skies and rising temperatures, Bengaluru is likely to remain warmer than Delhi in the coming days. While Bengaluru is set to hover around 33-34°C, Delhi is expected to enjoy pleasant weather with partly cloudy skies and a maximum of 29°C.

As summer approaches, Bengalureans should brace for even hotter days ahead, making early precautions against heat-related discomfort essential.
