Karnataka Weather Alert: Cold Wave Alert in 5 North Karnataka Dists, Bengaluru Set for Slight Weather Change

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has issued a weather alert predicting significantly colder days across the state, particularly in North Interior Karnataka, from November 19 to 21. A cold wave driven by strong chilly winds is expected to impact several northern districts, prompting authorities to urge residents to take necessary precautions.

Cold Wave Warning Issued

According to KSNDMC, very cold winds are likely to sweep through the districts of:

• Bidar
• Kalaburagi
• Vijayapura
• Bagalkote
• Belagavi

Residents in these areas have been advised to stay warm and limit exposure to the cold, especially during nighttime and early mornings.

Kalyana Karnataka Shivers as Temperatures Dip

Much of Kalyana Karnataka, including Kalaburagi, Bidar, Raichur, and Koppal, is already experiencing sharp drops in temperature. Night temperatures have fallen to as low as 14°C, forcing people to remain indoors due to the biting cold.

Local residents have taken out sweaters, shawls, winter caps, and woollen clothing to cope with the sudden temperature drop. In several villages, people are opting for bonfires to keep warm. Tea vendors near bus stands and railway stations are witnessing a morning rush as people gather for hot beverages to beat the chill.

Officials from the Bidar Agriculture Science Centre have warned that temperatures may drop even further up to 10°C in December.

Local administrations have urged people to take precautions, particularly vulnerable groups such as children, senior citizens and those with respiratory issues. Wearing warm clothing, limiting exposure to cold winds and staying indoors during late-night hours are among the suggested measures.

Bidar: 9.5°C

Belagavi: 11.2°C

Dharwad: 11.6°C

Vijayapura: 11°C

Gadag: 13.2°C

Raichur: 14°C

Kalaburagi: 15.1°C

Chitradurga: 15.1°C

These numbers reflect a significant dip from normal seasonal averages, marking the onset of an early winter chill.

Bengaluru Weather Forecast

Weather blogger Vijay, who runs the X handle 'Namma Karnataka Weather' noted that Bengaluru is expected to witness a partly cloudy start to the day, accompanied by strong winds. As the day progresses, cloud cover may increase.

Rainfall linked to the Northeast Monsoon (NEM) continues to remain concentrated over South Tamil Nadu, while regions in North and Central Tamil Nadu are receiving minimal showers. As a result, South Interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru, is also missing out on significant rain.

A low-pressure area (LPA) near Southeast Sri Lanka currently shows no major impact on Karnataka's weather.

However, meteorologists note that:

There is a possibility of scattered light rain across parts of South Interior Karnataka.

Bengaluru may receive light showers ranging from 3 mm to 10 mm.
