Karnataka Rains: Is There A Holiday For Schools In Bengaluru On Thursday, December 5?

Bengaluru residents woke up to early morning showers on Thursday, attributed to the remnants of Cyclone Fengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast generally cloudy skies and light rain in the city, expected to persist until December 5, 2024.

Amid these weather developments, several parents have urged authorities to declare a holiday for schools and colleges on Thursday i.e December 5.

Are Schools Closed in Bengaluru?

While schools in five districts of Karnataka have been closed due to continuous rains caused by Cyclone Fengal, no official announcement has been made regarding school closures in Bengaluru. The Meteorological Department has forecasted rainfall in the city for the next three days, but clarity on school holidays in Bengaluru is still awaited.

Schools in Mandya, Mysore, Kolar, Chamarajanagar, and Chikkaballapur have been closed since Sunday following heavy rainfall. Additional holidays were declared for schools in these districts on Monday and Tuesday due to the adverse weather conditions.

Karnataka Weather Forecast

The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for Bengaluru Urban, Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Ramanagara, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi districts. Furthermore, an Orange Alert has been issued for Kodagu, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga districts.

The IMD also reported that a new Western Disturbance is likely to impact the western Himalayan region and adjacent plains starting December 7 and 8, 2024. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and heed official advisories.
