Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah: Congress To Reveal LS Poll Candidates In 2-3 days

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that the list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state by Congress would be announced in two-three days, on Wednesday.

He mentioned that the selection process does not involve any major controversy and nominees will be finalized based on the input from the party's local leaders.

Siddaramaiah informed reporters in Karwar that the Congress list may be released in two to three days following the central election committee's meeting scheduled for the next day. He emphasized that the decision-making process involves considering opinions from various party stakeholders, including district in-charge Ministers, MLAs, defeated candidates, Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha members, block committee presidents, and district presidents, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress President D K Shivakumar also commented on the matter in Hubballi, stating that the list would be finalized after Thursday's meeting in the national capital under the leadership of AICC President M Mallikarjun Kharge. Additionally, it was highlighted that the BJP had secured a significant victory in the 2019 general elections in Karnataka by winning 25 out of the total 28 seats, with an independent backed by the party also emerging victorious, as per media reports.

The Congress and JD(S) coalition, which managed only one seat each, faced a setback. However, with the political landscape evolving, the Congress, buoyed by its success in the Assembly elections last year, aims to present a robust performance in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Moreover, negotiations are underway between the party and the BJP regarding seat-sharing arrangements, as the Congress seeks to demonstrate its continued influence, particularly in South Karnataka.
