Ganesh Chaturthi Guidelines: Police Efforts Undermined As Late-Night Festivities Continue In Bengaluru
As Ganesh Chaturthi festivities began on September 7, Bengaluru city police implemented strict security measures to ensure peaceful celebrations. Increased surveillance, additional security personnel, and temporary checkpoints have been set up to monitor key locations and prevent disturbances.
Public gatherings and events require regulation, with loudspeaker use permitted only between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Unregulated sound systems are banned, and traffic diversions are in place for the idol immersion processions, which must conclude by 10 p.m.

Public gatherings and events that could disrupt peace will be closely regulated. The use of loudspeakers and high-decibel sound systems will require special permission, and unregulated use will be banned. Loudspeakers are allowed only between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.
To manage crowds during the idol immersion processions, barricades will be installed, and traffic will be diverted to prevent congestion. Processions must conclude by 10 p.m.
Police have engaged with community leaders, urging cooperation to maintain peace, and have held meetings with Ganesha Utsav committees to ensure compliance with guidelines.
A dedicated emergency response team will be on standby to handle any incidents during the festivities, with medical aid stations strategically placed for immediate assistance if needed.
The public is advised to adhere to the guidelines and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure a safe and joyous festival. Any suspicious activities should be reported to the nearest police station, the release added.
However, despite these measures, some residents flouted rules. Celebrations extended into the late night on Saturday, causing disturbances for elderly residents and pets. Police continue to urge public cooperation to maintain peace during the festivities.
Rahul Deshmukh, a local resident, expressed his frustration,"The celebrations went on well past midnight, and it was difficult for us, especially with elderly parents at home. We support the festival, but there should be some discipline when it comes to loudspeakers and the timings."
Aparna Iyer, a school teacher from Jayanagar, shared a different perspective: "I understand the concerns about noise, but Ganesh Chaturthi is an important cultural celebration for us. It happens once a year, and people need the freedom to celebrate with joy. Maybe the authorities can find a balance between security and tradition."
Meera Reddy, a pet owner from Koramangala, voiced her concerns about the impact on animals: "The constant loud noise and crackers are really distressing for pets. My dog has been very anxious over the last few days, and it's tough to calm him down. I hope the authorities enforce the time limits on loudspeakers more strictly for the sake of pets and the elderly.
Meanwhile, Rajesh Patil, a shopkeeper in Basavanagudi, said,"People are not following the rules, and it's creating chaos. I've seen how some processions just ignore the time limits. The police need to be tougher on violators."
Police continue to urge Bengaluru residents to adhere to the guidelines and help maintain peace during the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
