Flag Controversy In Bengaluru: BJP Leader Shares Views On 'Green Flag' Seen In Shivajinagar

A controversy has erupted in Bengaluru's Shivajinagar area as a 'green flag' was raised, leading the opposition BJP to demand immediate action. This incident follows a recent dispute over the removal of a saffron Hanuman flag in Mandya district.

On Tuesday, Basanagouda R Patil (Yatnal) posted an image on social media, alleging that a green flag had been hoisted near Chandni Chowk Road, Shivajinagar in Bengaluru.

Expressing concern, Yatnal, questioned the adherence to the flag code, asserting that flying a green flag resembling the color of an enemy country in a public area is inappropriate. He called for the immediate removal of the green flag, emphasizing that Shivajinagar is in India, not Pakistan. The Bengaluru Police Commissioner was tagged in the post.

The Bengaluru city police promptly took down the flag and hoisted the national flag in its place. ''I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the police team for their prompt and decisive response,'' he wrote on X.

This development comes amid ongoing political tension between the Congress government and the opposition BJP-JD(S) regarding the Hanuman flag removal incident in Mandya.

In Mandya, the controversy arose when a 108-feet tall flagpost, initially designated for the Indian tricolor, had a Hanuman flag hoisted on it. The Panchayat Development Officer in Keragodu village has been suspended for permitting the Hanuman flag and failing to take timely action to rectify the situation.

The removal of the Hanuman flag on January 28 led to protests, with the BJP and JD(S) accusing the Congress government of instigating people for political gains. Security has been heightened in Mandya, and protests have included marches with saffron flags and slogans against the Congress government.
